A few words with this week's featured resident DJ:
Phil Langham
My Dad being a musician sort of gave me a head start with some aspects of music, and before i started to pine for some decks in 1987 i had a sort of in built know-how on how to mix tracks together,so by 1988 i was pretty fluent with mixing. Early influences were the Chicago House Scene, then i got fascinated with the Detroit techno sound. This new style of sounds made me progress on to some of the early Euro Trance labels, such as R&S and Harthouse, and before long I was really into the old Roland 303 produced stuff, with Hardfloor being one of my favourites.
I sort of trangressed into the late 1990's trance and have stayed on the scene, pretty much since, doing the usual cross-overs from Vinyl > CD > PC. I think what makes me different from most DJs is i have very little interest in the club scene, and apart from a 1 year residency in 2004,i have pretty much zero experience of live DJing,& now am very much a family man.
My productions/tastes/interests stem from natural ability and a labour of love toward Dance music. I am maybe slowing right down when my Journey Through Trance Episodes reach 300,and from then on i may only do speical editions/year mixes/retro editions. Episode 300 will inevitably be my favourite 30 or so trax of all time, which will be a difficult project,as i have been doing the JTT sets since 1998,so have so much music to pick from.I also want to clean up/edit/polish all my older Sets from Episode 001 and maybe post them all OL. But for now i am committed to getting to the 300 mark, and will then take it from there.
